God working on all our hearts

On Thursday, teams from Woodlands and Esperanza Viva joined together and went up to a settlement area of Condevilla that is on top of a very steep hill.  The people up there live in small shacks that they put together with whatever materials they can scavenge.   Our mission this day was to visit the homes to hand out vitamins, child care packages, and share the Gospel.   We divided into groups of five or so and spread out.  The group I was in visited one home where  a mom, 6 month old baby, and two girls live.  They were very thankful to receive the vitamins and Origami frogs folded by children in Chincha with messages of God’s love.  As I was talking to them, I was given an opportunity to share my testimony of faith.  I shared how I grew up as a Buddhist but came to know the true peace that can only come through God’s grace.  As I was holding the baby and sharing my testimony, I sensed a deep connection with this family.  The mom told me “I’m very happy that you are happy now”.  Then we prayed for her and her household.  As we were getting ready to leave, she said to us “I wish I knew you were coming, so I could have prepared something for you”.  This broke my heart.  This woman, who barely has anything, wanted to offer something to us.  The t-shirt I was wearing that day had the verse from Acts 20:35 “It is more blessed to give than to receive”.  I felt the Spirit at work deeply that moment.

Blessings,
Hiroko

Getting ready to leave

Today we made connections with all of the people from church.  We drove a couple hours to the beach and enjoyed each others company all day.  We had 9 baptisms today in the ocean some of the Woodlands team and some of the Esperanza Viva team.  We swam in the ocean, did a little improv rock climbing (nothing too dangerous considering Terry joined us).  Emma, Andy, and Ty had the wonderful experience of getting stung by jelly fish, but do not worry they are totally fine.  They say it stings  like really bad itch weed or burning nedle for a hour or so.

Well it is a bitter sweet ending here tonight.  We are about to leave and go to the airport.  We fly out at about 11:30 pm Lima time (10:50 Wisconsin Time).  We will arrive in Chicago at 9:30 am.  Then we will get home approximately 2-3 pm at Woodlands Plover campus.

Pray for our safe travels and safe stomachs (some of us are a little problomatic down there, but to be expected) and most of all God’s will will happen.
